I got a brand new (from 1979) F-body spare tire for $5 (over $100 on ebay), two brand new OE style exhaust turn downs (for $15 cheaper than I can find online), and a 20 year old race helmet for $3 because why the heck not.

I think I am going to remove the visor and paint it to look like James Hunt's helmet.

more pics of that spare tire. What is going on? Has the sidewall rotted away from the rest of the tire?

I like the idea about the helmet! How do you come upon swap meets with racing helmets?

It is an early space saver. You take this blue canister of compressed air and it blows up the tire to full size (see pic) .

This is the first swap meet I have gone to, there were several people selling old race helmets. The one I bought was made in March of 1993 so it probably won't pass any requirements anymore thus why it was so cheap.

I couldn't find a canister or a jack :(

So is it a full size space saver, or just a smaller space saver? Still really cool. I want one of those blue bottles. Although it is probably pretty dangerous… I want it more in that case

When inflated it becomes a full size tire. The trunk of my car is so small GM had to go with a space saver to make the storage space at least little bit useful. I can't find a canister though :(

When my dad had a 79 bandit trans am (my brother 190e30 has posted about it before) he had the same space saver with the same blue canister. Told me it would blow up in his face if he tried to use it. :D
